BAHAMAS BAPTIST UNIVERSITY COLLEGE SIGNS
MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING WITH
FLORIDA MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY
The Bahamas Baptist University College (BBUC) is one of the educational institutions of The Bahamas Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention and has a legacy of offering high quality education within the Bahamas. The college is registered and approved by the National Accreditation Council of The Bahamas (NAECOB). BBUC is entering into a Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) with Florida Memorial University (FMU) of Miami, United States. This represents a continued collaboration that started in 1995 when BBUC signed its first Articulation Agreement with the then Florida Memorial College. FMU is accredited by the Southern Association of College and Schools Commissions on Colleges (SACSCOC).
The agreement is effective September 11th, 2019. The purpose of this agreement is to ensure acceptance of prior coursework and to facilitate the transfer of Bahamas Baptist University College (BBUC) students who have completed either of the following:
- An Associate of Arts Degree Awarded by Bahamas Baptist University College with a minimumcumulative grade point average (GPA) of 5 or higher.

- A minimum of 30 transferable semester units with a minimum cumulative grade pointaverage (GPA) of 5 or higher.
Under the terms of the MOU, Associate of Arts degree graduates will be able to pursue their Bachelor degree at FMU in Florida. The students will have guaranteed admissions, transferability of credits, students advising, housing, and scholarship opportunities for those with a 3.2 GPA and higher. These students, having completed two years of tertiary education at BBUC, will enter FMU at junior standing.
Dr. Juliett V. Reid, President of the College, indicated that she is particularly pleased with this continued partnership as FMU is well-known for offering an excellent education that balances academic preparation, professional training and the latest in computer technology as well as scholarships.
Dr. Reid also stated that the wide acceptance of credits earned at BBUC by Colleges and Universities in the Caribbean Region, United States, Canada and the United Kingdom is having a very positive effective on the growth of the College. To further facilitate this growth, the college will be expanding its programme offerings as well as implementing retention strategies to increase its student persistent. Strategies to invoke student involvement and increase its academic support services are also being introduced.
BBUC will work with Florida Memorial University to market and communicate the details of this offering to students and show them the significance it can hold for them. The signing of this MOU will take place at The Office of the President at the administrative block of the college on Jean Street, Wednesday, September 11th, 2019 at 11:30 am.
