BBUC is a community-engaged higher education institution. Some of our outreach programs and services include:

 

 

Environmental Initiatives

Climate change is a very serious challenge that affects us all. BBUC is in dialogue with several environmental agencies seeking ways to support them. The groups that are currently a part of this conversation is the Nature Conservancy, The Forestry Unit (The Ministry of Housing and the Environment) and the Bahamas Protected Areas Fund. We are also in the process of reaching out to others.

 

 

Disability Awareness Week: “Encouraging Equality and Inclusiveness” Wheel/Walk in Solidarity Sunday, December 1, 2019

A group of students participated in this event in support of the members of our community with physical challenges.

 

 

Annual Thanksgiving Food and Clothing Drive

On numerous occasions, during the past 25 years the BBUC community has solicited food and clothing donations to give to several charitable organizations.

 

 

Bahamas National Drug Council Annual World Children’s Day Observance: Pop-Up Festival November 19th, 2019

A group of students accompanied by The Director of Student Activities and Alumni Affairs assisted the Director of The National Drug Council and her Team along with other volunteering agencies on Tuesday November 19th. The festival was aired on national television from the Columbus Primary School.

CIBC First Caribbean 9th Annual Walk for a Cure: November 9th, 2019

A group of students assisted the organizers of this event; CIBC First Caribbean International Bank. The annual event was held on Saturday, November 9th, 2019.

 

Power of One Events: October 3-5, 2019 (Hurricane Dorian Events)

Post-Dorian events were held at the National Stadium from October 3-5. Several of our students assisted with these initiatives through supporting the Kiwanis Clubs efforts. They assisted with The Jesus in the Park Event and the Concert.

 

Circle K Club

Our Circle K club was chartered in the Fall Semester of 2015. Circle K International is the collegiate arm of the Kiwanis Clubs. The core objectives of Circle K International are service, leadership and fellowship. Our sponsor clubs are Kiwanis Club of North Eleuthera and Kiwanis Club of Ft. Montagu.

Over the years our Club has participated in community events ranging from beach clean-ups, soup kitchen assistance, children and geriatric home visits.

 

Adopt-A- Grand-Parent Programme

Our college has participated in this program for a duration of a semester. Adopt-a-Grand-Parent Programme is a community outreach initiative of the Sandilands Rehabilitation Center targeting some of their geriatric residents. It is designed to bring companionship and assistance to them.
